Me make mistakes, me learns

August 14, 2026

One of the stranger parts of getting older is realizing how often I've been wrong. I've somehow managed to be wrong across nearly the entire spectrum of things a person can be wrong about.

How I misjudged something. How I viewed the world. How I thought of myself. How I viewed someone else. How my words and actions could unintentionally affect others.

It's those mistakes that help you learn who you are. It's how you can contribute to being a more positive force for the people in your life. However, that hinges on you knowing that you've made mistakes.

Some mistakes are easier to spot than others. You might never even know you're making them.

But being the ripe old age of 26 at the time of writing this, I finally feel like the extra wrinkles in my brain and the extra few (thousands of) neuron connections have allowed me to think one layer deeper than I have before. And I hope that continues! I hope I keep learning from my mistakes, understanding who I am, and ultimately finding peace with my place in the world.

For future Cody, remember that at 26, you were still very dumb, lost in your career, didn't know shit about the music industry (shout out Lolla), were inconsiderate of others when sharing your worldviews, and ultimately weren't nearly as mature as you thought you were. But, you are growing and getting better. You are not as dumb as you were a year ago. I hope you're saying the same thing to yourself now as you read this.
